Postgame Quotes - January 16, 2016

DETROIT PISTONS HEAD COACH STAN VAN GUNDY:  (On the bench): “I thought our bench was really good. Aron Baynes was terrific, Stanley (Johnson) played well. What Steve (Blake) did in the second half, he hasn’t played since Brandon (Jennings) has been back, and to stay ready the way he does; we just talked about it in there with the team, held him up as an example to our young guys, because he does all of his work and keeps himself ready. Somebody may go down and you know you’re going to play that day because somebody is hurt, he had no idea coming in, doesn’t play the whole first half and then to come in and do that, I mean, that’s the kind of things that make your team, and the kind of things that you need in your organization. That’s why every spot on your roster is really, really important. Not always do fans look at it that way; when you get down to signing those kind of guys, the Steve Blake’s and Joel Anthony’s of the world are important, those are the kind of guys you need ready to go all the time. Tremendous performance by a lot of guys, I just bring Steve up because not knowing he was going to play, sitting for as long as he has, and coming in two three’s, and play well defensively, great.” (On different type of energy tonight): “We did not back down at all. They wanted to turn it into that, but no. We stood up to it. We played well; (Stephen) Curry was tremendous. It’s not like he had an off night, he was tremendous, Klay (Thompson) was pretty good, and we didn’t let him get going on three’s. But the rest of the team, I think was 14-for-39, or 13-for-49, something like that. So, other than those two guys, we did a really good job.” DETROIT PISTONS GUARD STANLEY JOHNSON: (On repeating this type of performance every night): “We can, there’s no reason why we can’t do this every night. We’re working towards this, to do this every night. We bring energy every night. It’s our job as professionals to do that so now we’ve set the bar for ourselves. We can’t go back, we have to keep going.” (On ending tough stretch with a win against Golden State): “Well every team puts their shoes on the same way, puts their jersey on the same way, just because their record is 33-4 or whatever it says, we’re going to put our best foot forward. So week 20, wherever we are and wherever they are once we start fighting, everybody is 0-0.” GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS INTERIM HEAD COACH LUKE WALTON:  (On tonight): “We didn’t start the game with our heads.  I know we’ve been saying it all year, we’ve done a good job of it, but no matter where we go, teams are going to give us their best shot.  It was a big night; the crowd, it was a sellout—retiring Ben Wallace’s jersey.  They were coming after us tonight and we weren’t ready to fight back and in this league, if you’re not ready to fight back you’re going to get blown out and that’s what happened to us.” (On if he thought the team had a shot the way Steph Curry was playing): “We always have a shot.  I mean we cut it to 11, 12 a couple of times and that’s all you try to do when you’re down 20 is just get it to 10 at some point.  Once you get it to 10 anything can happen and we made a couple defensive mistakes.  We gave up some three’s and then we just couldn’t get over that final hump to turn it into a single-digit game but yeah, we’re never really out of it, we feel.  We have to realize that when we’re down like that, you get back into the game defensively.  You get stops, you get out and run and it looked like tonight for some part of the game we were in it, other parts we thought we could make it back on offense and we’ll learn from it and move on.” GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS FORWARD DRAYMOND GREEN: (On thinking they could make a run in the fourth quarter): “Yeah I did.  I thought we could, but we still didn’t get stops and scores.  We just didn’t get stops and we fouled them a lot.” (On trusting each other offensively): “I don’t think we weren’t (trusting).  I think we moved the ball pretty well.  I don’t think it’s a lack of trust, I think the ball’s been sticking a little more than usual, not just this game but the last few games.  It’s something we have to get back to doing.  For us that’s never a problem with this team.”
