Pistons vs Bulls

Detroit: Lawrence Frank | Greg Monroe | Brandon Knight
Chicago: Tom Thibodeau | Marco Belinelli

Pistons Head Coach Lawrence Frank

(On falling behind early and game): “I think from that point on what we started to do is we started to get stops and get out in transition and had a very, very good push attack. We played with very, very good pace. If you look at it, outside of the initial five or six-minute stretch, from that point on defensively we were pretty good. Three of the four quarters we held them to 21 or less. It was a total team win. You can go up and down the line in terms how everyone impacted the game in a positive way. It was a “one more” type of night. One more effort, one more help, one more pass, one more push. We made a lot of winning type plays and played with a lot of intensity. We got a great lift from the bench in that second quarter and played a pretty solid game.”

(On snapping the 18-game losing streak to Chicago): “It wasn’t like we were that far away. They’re obviously ahead of us big picture, but three losses, a total of eight points. The ironic thing is in terms of point differential we’d be plus-two. We played these guys tough and our guys knew it wasn’t like we had to reinvent the formula. We just needed a little bit more for a little bit longer. They’ve dealt with injuries and being shorthanded and we obviously were missing some guys as well. I was just proud of our guys. The last four or five games we’ve really competed and now it’s good to get a win for our effort.”

Pistons Center Greg Monroe

(On breaking the streak): “We came out and it was a complete team effort. After the first quarter we kind of took control of the game. We used that energy and focus for the rest of the game.”

(On bench and play after the first quarter): “The second team came in with a lot of energy. They definitely changed the game for us. Everybody else kept up the energy from there, kept the defensive intensity up, everybody was moving the ball. It was definitely a great team effort tonight.”

(On stringing good games together): “It’s never too late. We have to get ready for Wednesday and come out with the same energy, focus and intensity, execute on offense and make sure we are in position on defense.”

Pistons Guard Brandon Knight

(On finally defeating Chicago): “It feels good to finish out a game strong against them. Tonight we were the team that didn’t make the mistakes, and we capitalized on their mistakes.”

(On playing with injuries): “You have to play through them. I know we don’t have a shot at the playoffs this year, but I just can’t sit down and watch. If I can get on the court and play and give my team some type of positive boost I’ll do it, whether I’m scoring five points or not. That’s just my competitive nature. Whether it’s my foot, knee or nose, I just try to play through it.”

(On encouraging teammates): “I think positivity can definitely go a long way. Even if things are looking really bad, I just try to lift the guys up and try to get them to see the positive side of things--no matter what. I think that helps our team overall.”

Bulls Head Coach Tom Thibodeau

(On team energy): “You have to play 48 minutes. I thought they missed some shots early and we were very flat with our offensive game from the start and you are not going to win like that.”

(On Joakim Noah’s return): “It was some good and some bad. I thought the same with Marco (Belinelli). They cannot miss the amount of time that they missed and not show it. Unfortunately, the games keep coming and they are coming quick.”

(On defense): “I thought defensively we were very poor. The one thing about Luol (Deng) is that he will give you that edge. When he is out we need people to step up and give us that edge. We have to get that back and we have to get it back quick.”

Bulls Guard Marco Belinelli

(On personal performance): “I felt pretty good. I did not play much and I did not play well nor did I score the ball, so I was not that aggressive. I am mad at myself, but I know that is part of the game. I did not play for two weeks so it was part of my injury, so I need to work more and get ready for the next one.”

(On team moving forward): “They are supportive of me. Tonight I played really bad so I need to get ready for the next one.”
