The Palace of Auburn Hills will be buzzing with activity all day long on Friday, October 29 as 15 metro-Detroit radio and television stations broadcast live from the venue leading up to the Detroit Pistons 2010-11 regular season home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
An annual tradition since the building opened its doors in 1988, metro-Detroit radio stations make The Palace their studio for the day, allowing them a chance to take in all the excitement as Palace staff prepares for another exciting season of Pistons basketball. The broadcasts will begin at 5 a.m. and continue until tip-off.
Pistons rookie forward Greg Monroe, Head Coach John Kuester, long-time “voice of the Pistons” George Blaha, radio color commentator and “Bad Boy” Rick Mahorn, Automotion dance team members and many others will be on hand to discuss happenings around The Palace as well as expectations of the Pistons as they begin their 2010-11 campaign.
The first 5,000 fans entering The Palace for the game on Friday will receive a special Halloween edition black and orange Ben Gordon youth jersey with glow-in-the-dark numbers courtesy of Fanta. The foot-juggling Bello Brothers will provide the halftime entertainment.
The game can be heard on the flagship radio affiliate for the Pistons this season, WXYT 97.1 FM, “The Ticket.” Mark Champion returns as the radio voice of the Pistons and will be joined once again by Mahorn on color analysis. Matt Dery helps provide coverage during pre-game and halftime, and after the game, he will take calls from fans as he broadcasts live from The Canadian Club Terrace, located on the concourse above the East exit. FSN Detroit, in its 14th season of broadcasting Pistons games, will be the exclusive local television provider for Pistons Basketball, with the broadcast also available in high-definition on FSN HD. Prior to the game, viewers can catch Pistons In Focus at 7 p.m. followed by Pistons Live at 7:30 p.m. with host Mickey York and in-studio analyst Mateen Cleaves. Blaha will deliver play-by-play and Greg Kelser will provide color commentary. The opening night game kicks off the team’s “4-Pack Fridays” promotion. The Friday night package includes four upper level tickets and a postgame shot on the court for $44 ($94 in lower level), plus happy hour drink specials and enter to win a meet & greet with a Pistons player.
