A Pistons.com Exclusive
One-on-One: Lindsey Hunter

Lindsey Hunter, a 12-year NBA veteran, is enjoying his ninth season in a Pistons uniform. After spending the first seven years with the Pistons, he spent a season each with Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Toronto before returning to Detroit for the 2003-04 season.

During his free time, Hunter enjoys collecting automobiles. He recently opened a car studio that specializes in vehicle re-design called Detroit Custom Concepts located on 16 Mile Road and Mound in Sterling Heights, Mich. Pistons.com got the chance to sit down with Lindsey Hunter to get a better understanding of his new business venture.

Can you tell me a little bit about Detroit Custom Concepts?
“It’s something new. It’s something I have been doing research on for like the last five years and I have wanted to get into this business and the opportunity presented itself. I’ve had opportunities in other places but I wanted to do it in Detroit, where I play and where I live now, so what better city to do it than in the motor city.”

How long has Detroit Custom Concepts been open?
“It’s been open close to three weeks. Business has been good so far. We’ve gotten a lot of positive response, a lot of people have been coming by and hopefully it continues to grow.”

Are you partnered with someone?
“It’s just me now. I am the only owner. I have a bunch of employees such as the installers and other guys that do the audio and video work, so I have a good team.”

What sort of things can be done to one's car?
“Anything you can imagine we can do. I mean we can do anything. We can do practical things such as you just want a basic radio system or we can make you an elaborate system with a fiberglass speaker system.”

How did this idea of customizing vehicles evolve?
“My love of cars. That’s what it stems from. It kind of started from there and now it’s like, oh man, there’s a whole new facet to it and I’m enjoying it. This is a thing I have a passion for. I do have other ventures I do, but I think this one is more fun for me and more a way of getting away and it’s something different and I enjoy that.”

Have you had any work done to your car?
“I have had something done to every single one of them. My favorite is my Hummer, well, I have a ’99 Corvette that I had the top chopped and the windshield is only about six or eight inches high and it’s really cool. It’s been painted, the engine’s been modified and the whole interior has been changed. It has a speaker system in the back with the fiberglass encased in plexi-glass, I mean just the works.”
