New Concessions and Merchandise Offerings Await Fans When Detroit Pistons Open 2009-10 Season This Friday

Detroit Pistons fans will take pleasure in a variety of new food and beverage options at concessions areas throughout The Palace including an “Early Bird Bucket,” bottomless popcorn and sodas, and a three-pound pretzel. Team followers will also enjoy a host of new merchandise choices at its retail stores and concourse kiosks including Pistons track suits and new court apparel when the team takes on the Oklahoma City Thunder in its home opener this Friday, October 30 at 8 p.m.

Beginning with the home opener, to encourage early arrivals, for the first hour after doors open at each home game, the team will offer an “Early Bird Bucket” which includes one pound of peanuts-in-the-shell, two regular hot dogs and two sodas for a reduced price. In general, doors open 90 minutes before the start of each home game.

Other value-oriented new items available at concessions stands and in the Center Court in-seat service areas include a bottomless popcorn souvenir bucket with free refills and a bottomless soda in a souvenir cup with free refills.

The biggest – literally – new menu item available at concessions stands and in the Center Court in-seat service areas is the three pound “Victory Knot Pretzel,” a snack so big is comes in a pizza box and includes three house-made dipping sauces. Another new snack treat are house-made potato chips which come with roasted garlic parmesan dip.

The entire menu in the Center Court in-seat service areas has been upgraded with new items including upscale sandwiches and house made desserts including “Chef Donna’s Carmel Corn.”

The list of items available in The Palace’s suites has been dramatically changed with more than 50 new offerings including pulled pork and Ancho-marinated chicken quesadillas, a Southwestern nacho bar, grilled chicken and sirloin Tuscan flatbread sandwiches, and chocolate covered strawberries and truffles.

Friday’s contest marks the first regular season game under The Palace’s new concessionaire Levy Restaurants. Chicago-based Levy Restaurants is a James Beard and Ivy Award-winning restaurant company that has transformed dining and hospitality at major sporting and entertainment venues across the country. Levy was recently named one of the top 10 most innovative companies in sports by Fast Company magazine.

“We want our guests to know they will still be enjoying the same experience attending events that our Palace staff has honed for 20-plus years,” said Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Palace Sports & Entertainment. “As the industry leader, Levy Restaurants has a number of ideas we will be facilitating to make that experience even greater.”

Pistons fans will also be able to find literally something for every taste with a host of new merchandise offerings including new court apparel from Adidas with new designs for its shooting shirts and game warm-ups, as well as t-shirts with updated graphics in both traditional cotton and new performance fabrics, many of which are also available in youth sizes.

Adidas is also bringing back the extremely popular track suits for both men and ladies in black, navy and royal for men and red, black, navy and royal for ladies.

The ever-popular sweatshirt selection has been expanded with new designs, featuring premium fabrics and popular contemporary styles for both men and ladies.

The variety of non-wearable souvenirs has been expanded to include Pistons mouse pads, street signs, car flags, metal license plate frames and large window decals.
