Postgame Quotes - March 23, 2011

(On the game) “I’ll start off saying we competed. We did a nice job of beating them on the boards. We did a great job of taking care of the basketball with 28 assist and 12 turnovers.”

(On fourth quarter matchups) “They went small and we went with our normal second group and it was tough for AD (Austin Daye) and Charlie (Villanueva) to matchup with their shooters and stuff like that so you had to make a decision. When you start playing a lineup where you have Bibby, Wade, either Mike Miller or Lebron James and now you have Chris Bosh in there. You have to make a decision if you go and match them, or all of a sudden you have to have Chris (Wilcox) who has done a great job, I mean Chris was phenomenal.”

(On bringing starters back in) “I tried to bring them in as soon as I could. I thought again we came back and gave ourselves a chance and we just couldn’t finish it off.”

(On offense) “We went through that spurt where all of a sudden we get nothing in the post when we were posting the ball. We weren’t getting anything out of our set plays where we were getting guys coming off of screens and then that’s where our starters came back in.”

(On closing the game) “It's always frustrating when you lose a game when you think you control the game, control the tempo of the game. You've got to control the game all the way to the fourth quarter and close the game out.”

(On fourth quarter) “They stepped it up a little bit, that was basically it. I don't think we stopped playing hard, I think they turned it up a notch and we had to match that and we didn't.”

(On being more aggressive against Heat) “Definitely think we did come out more aggressive from the start this game and we kept our aggressiveness all the way through the fourth quarter. We just got it keep it through all quarters and play like we did in the first quarter.”

(On loss being frustrating) “Anyway we lose is frustrating, it's no different from any other loss.”

(On the game) “You have to give the Pistons some credit, they gave us everything we could handle through the whole game. They were outplaying us the first three quarters of the game. We really got back to our identity, almost too late, but defensively in the fourth quarter to hold them to 4-for-19, 13 points and that’s a dangerous offensive team. When their healthy, they haven't been healthy virtually the whole year, but when they have their full complement of players they have a lot of guys that can put the ball in the basket, so it was challenging. In the fourth quarter we were able to buckle down and get some stops and that was encouraging.”

(On playing better defense) “We were getting our tails handed to us and it was humbling through three quarters. There is no easy way in this league, there really isn't. If you're not bringing your best effort with a sense of urgency on that side of the floor, that can happen to you. When a team gets on a role and makes some tough shots. We did gather ourselves, a road win is a road win. These are tough to get and we got a lot of contributions from a lot of guys helping and it's a good win for us.”

(On the game) “It was a good win for us on the road tonight because it always to get a win on the road. We want to continue to play well and tonight I think that we found a way to win.”

(On the Pistons quick start) “They were moving the ball early tonight and they had a lot of assists tonight. They really played well at the beginning, but we made them take a lot of tougher shots and rebounded the ball late. They did a good job of getting the ball in the paint tonight with Wilcox, Monroe and those guys and we just knew we had to go a little harder and we did that in the fourth quarter.”

(On bench support) “It’s very important. Tonight, looking at this stat sheet, they had 24 points and it wasn’t all just stand still threes, I think that Mike (Miller) drove to the lane a couple of times and those guys were just aggressive tonight. It is good to see them get into a zone and put pressure on the defense.”

(On good fourth quarter) “The game is a 48 minute game and we want to play as close to 48 minutes as possible. We didn’t do that tonight, but I think that what we did in the fourth quarter was great. For a team that was rolling like the Pistons tonight and to hold them to 13 points on I think 4-19 from the field is really good and shows that we are very competitive and want to win games on the road.”

(On his play in fourth) “I just wanted to be aggressive. Coming into the fourth quarter we were down five, then I looked the monitor and we were down eight. So, it was either we go now or figure out long we were going to wait. We were able to come out and score a couple baskets and get my guys some open looks. We were able to make some good plays happen and was able to cut the lead very fast.”
