| Ken Calvert steps down after nearly 18 years as P.A. Announcer |
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Palace Sports and Entertainment President Tom Wilson today announced the hiring of John Mason as the Pistons' public address announcer. Mason, the host of the morning show on WDMK-FM (102.7), has one of the top-rated morning programs in the market.
"We are pleased to welcome John Mason to the Pistons' organization," said Wilson. "Mason brings a lot of enthusiasm to his work on radio and we are excited that he will bring that same enthusiasm to The Palace."
Mason has been one of Detroit's most popular radio personalities for the last 18 years. He worked with WJLB-FM (97.9) prior to joining WDMK-FM this past July.
Ken Calvert stepped down as the Pistons' public address announcer in September to pursue other career opportunities. Calvert, who hosts an afternoon show on WCSX-FM (94.7), served as the public address announcer from 1985-2001.
"After nearly 18 years as the Pistons PA announcer, I felt it was time to let go and totally focus on my WCSX radio program," Calvert said. "This is, arguably, one of my toughest decisions ever."
