The Pistons made Guys Night Out special by offering discounted tickets and food vouchers for the Pistons’ game versus the Orlando Magic. Afterward, the guys (and a few women as well) lined up outside the Captain’s Quarters to receive a free Pistons pint glass and a chance to meet and take pictures with the Automotion dance team. The two-person package cost $59.
“It’s always worth coming here,” said Dave Wilson, 34, from Port Huron.
Wilson said he comes to three or four Pistons games a year. A father of five and head coach of a girls’ parochial league basketball team for fourth through eighth graders, Wilson usually has a lot of company at the games he attends. He plans to bring his team to an upcoming game, but for Guys Night Out, Wilson took in the game with his friend, Johnny Cook, 21, also of Port Huron.
“This is the first time I came without the kids,” Wilson said.
Alan Ellis of Lathrup Village took advantage of Guys Night Out to have a birthday party for his stepson, Lonny Walton, who turned 18 on Wednesday. Ellis brought Walton and two of his friends out to see former Piston Grant Hill play against the current Pistons.
“It was good to see the Pistons back and killing it,” Walton said. The Pistons runaway 110-88 win over the Magic was Walton’s first Pistons game.
One of Walton’s friends seemed more excited to see Automotion. “Are they passing out numbers?” he asked as the dance team entered the Captain’s Quarters. No numbers, but Automotion signed autographs for everyone waiting in line and posed for pictures.
“Guys Night Out” was a memorable for a lot of guys like Walton, and the best part is they didn’t have to worry about a suspicious glare from mom or a significant other when they got home.
Best to keep the Automotion calendar at work, though, just to be safe.
