2007-08 Schedule Magnet Giveaway is Basis for “Cool” Contest

Detroit Pistons Say: "Here’s a Magnet, How About a Fridge?"


AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- Any time the Detroit Pistons host the Cleveland Cavaliers, they hope every fan gives LeBron James and his teammates, the cold shoulder. The next time the Cavs come to town, the Pistons will give one lucky fan the opportunity -- literally.

On Wednesday, November 28, the Pistons will be giving away 2007-08 Schedule Magnets courtesy of the Michigan Lottery, to the first 20,000 fans in attendance. The magnets are provided for the refrigerator, however, in a promotional twist, the team is going to help one lucky fan out by providing the refrigerator for the magnet.

The Detroit Pistons will give away a full-sized refrigerator to one lucky fan at the November 28 game. And the Pistons are going to autograph the fridge. The catch is that the fan must correctly guess how many magnets are attached to the refrigerator.

“Every year, we give away a schedule magnet,” said Tom Wilson, CEO of the Detroit Pistons, “and it’s a great giveaway because it sits on your fridge for the season and you constantly refer to it. But we wanted to make it a bit sexier for our 50th season. So we are having the guys autograph a refrigerator and then giving it to one lucky fan. We say, ‘Be the first on your block to have a Pistons autographed refrigerator!’”

The fridge will be on display at The Palace’s West Atrium beginning Friday, November 23 when the Pistons host the Philadelphia 76ers. Magnets will begin appearing on the refrigerator as the November 28 game approaches. Fans will also be able to scout the fridge at the November 25 game against the Utah Jazz.

On November 28, fans can fill out cards with their guesses and be entered to win the fridge. The person with the correct guess (or closest to it) will be announced during the third quarter of the game and will take home the refrigerator.
