Billups averaged 17.9 points and 7.5 assists while leading the Pistons to a 10-1 record for the month. He averaged 21.3 points on the road and dished out eight-plus assists five times. He also moved into 30th place all-time in three-point field goals made and shot 93 percent from the free-throw line. This is Billups’ second Player-of-the-Month honor. He also won the award for January of 2006.
Saunders guided the Pistons to a 10-1 (.909) record last month, the franchise’s best February since going 10-1 in 1990. The Pistons allowed opponents a league-low 86.6 points per game and held eight of 11 teams to 90 points or less. Detroit went undefeated in eight conference games and posted a 4-0 record against teams in the Central Division.
This marks the fourth time Saunders has won the award as head coach of the Detroit Pistons. Last season, he became the only coach in NBA history to win Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for three consecutive months (November, December, and January).
