Detroit Pistons Claim Guard Beno Udrih Off Waivers

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has claimed guard Beno Udrih (BEN-oh OO-dreeh) off waivers. In a related move, the team also announced that it has waived guard Ray McCallum.

Udrih, 6-4, 203, is a 12-year NBA veteran who split last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami HEAT. Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round (28th overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft, Udrih has played in 792 career NBA games (272 starts) and averaged 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 22.3 minutes with San Antonio, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Orlando, New York, Memphis and Miami. He’s also seen action in 53 postseason games and was a member of the Spurs’ championship teams in 2004-05 and 2006-07. Udrih enjoyed his best career year during the 2010-11 season while with the Kings. He averaged career highs in points (13.7 ppg), rebounds (3.4 rpg), assists (4.9 apg) and minutes (34.6 mpg) in 79 games.

A native of Celje, Slovenia, Udrih began his pro career at the age of 15 in the Slovenian secondary league. He’s also played professionally in Israel, Russia and Italy and has been representing Slovenia in international basketball since 2000.

McCallum signed with the Pistons as a free agent on July 26, 2016. In three preseason games, he averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 22.4 minutes per game.
