Postgame Quotes - March 24, 2012

Pistons at Knicks

Detroit: Lawrence Frank | Greg Monroe
Knicks Mike Woodson | Carmelo Anthony | Amar'e Stoudemire

Pistons Head Coach Lawrence Frank

(On tonight’s game): “Without a doubt. They [the Knicks] dominated the paint. They were plus-20 points in the paint, plus-24 in rebounding. They had 18 offensive rebounds, seven steals in the fourth quarter. It’s frustrating. You have to give them credit, but they were definitely the aggressors in the paint, which hurts.

(More on tonight’s game): “We definitely weren’t opportunistic. With those turnovers, we had some opportunities for open jump shots. Had some numbers where we didn’t convert. So we didn’t take advantage of the turnovers as much as we could have.”

Pistons Center Greg Monroe

(On tonight’s game): “They basically owned the paint tonight…scoring and rebounding. I think they had 7 and 1’s and that’s not typical of us and we have to be better in that area.”

(On the season): “You can blame it on the season. We have to get back to giving the effort we were giving. In these last couple of games, we kind of lost that energy and focus and we just have to try to find a way to get it back. Everybody is fatigued. They (the Knicks) also came off of a back to back, so it’s never an excuse in this league. Everybody has to travel to the same cities so it’s ever an excuse to blame it on the season.”

(More on tonight’s game): “It might have been bad matchups. There are a number of things you can say…we have to come out and play…bring effort and energy and put ourselves in position to win games.”

Knicks Head Coach Mike Woodson

(On Amar’e Stoudemire and turnovers): “Definitely they are concerns. The big concerns are with the turnovers and Amare’s back. It stiffened up on him a little bit coming down the stretch. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we’ve had seven games in 11 days. And it’s been a grind. It’s not going to get any better. It’s kind of nice to have blowout games where you get the opportunity to rest. He didn’t play big minutes tonight, but it’s in the midst of a back-to-back. So I am concerned, but from a basketball standpoint the turnovers are just ridiculous. I think we’re a bit too nonchalant with the basketball. So we will go back and break down this game tape and show Jeremy (Lin) and Baron (Davis) where the mistakes were being made.”

(On Carmelo Anthony): “I opened up the second half with two plays to get Carmelo closer to the bucket and he delivered both times. As a coach I have to help him – that’s my job. I’m willing to continue to work with him and try to put him in the best position possible to be successful to help us win.”

Knicks Forward Carmelo Anthony

(On shooting struggles): “I wish I had an answer. I am not worried about that. I have been around this game and it happens.”

(On Amar’e Stoudemire’s injury): “I didn’t really know what happened. I went to bench and I was looking for him but they said he went to the back. I saw him after the game and he said everything is cool. He just didn’t want to take any chances.”

(On Monday’s game against Milwaukee): “That is a real big game for us. Going up against them, fighting for that eighth spot. The way we have been playing…we want to continue to keep playing. We need that game. We are going to be doing everything in our power to get that game. “

(On missing Jared Jeffries): “We need Jared. Most importantly, right now, it is for guys to be healthy coming down the stretch. If it takes him two or three weeks to get his body right we support that. We are going to need him for the playoff stretch.”

Knicks Forward Amar'e Stoudemire

(On tonight’s game): “We came out and played great. Second quarter we did a great job of getting a lead and in the second half we just swallowed them up. It was a phenomenal win for us.”

(On Monday’s game versus Milwaukee): “Very important for us. We are trying to make a run and do something special. Very important to build momentum into the next game.”

(On the rebounding advantage tonight): “We were doing a great job of getting the boards. Great team effort tonight.”

(On Carmelo Anthony): “He got it going in the second half. We try to make sure to get him the ball in easy positions so he can get it going. He scored well in the second half.”
