Pistons.com is calling a timeout and drawing Pistons fans into a tight little timeout circle here with one purpose: Let’s all let Chuck Daly, the Hall of Fame coach who led the Bad Boys to back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and ’90, know our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he battles pancreatic cancer from his Florida home. Pistons fans can share their memories of Daly, either through personal experiences or the passions stirred by thoughts of his great Pistons teams, or merely wish him well and brighten his day as thanks for all he meant to the history of one of the NBA’s great franchises. Send your greetings to dalywishes@palacenet.com and we’ll pass them along and share them with all to view on Pistons.com.
To the Greatest coach in sports history,

I was devastated to hear the news of your battle with pancreatic cancer. You are a fighter though, through and through.

Mr. Daly, when I was a young girl my parents bought our family Piston season tickets. For 40 or so games (for several seasons) the four of us (mom, dad, older sister and myself) drove from Chatham Ontario to the Palace of Auburn Hills to watch you and the Bad Boys fight hard, win championships. We were there through the good and the bad. You made us happy, sad, angry, excited and every other emotion under the sun, we experienced. The memories you gave our family are priceless. We loved watching you fight on the sidelines about bad calls, good calls. You made for great conversation on the drive home.

Because of what you done for us, you have our utmost gratitude. Our family is praying for you daily. We know you can fight, we watched it for 4 seasons live and in person. We know you have the strength. We know you have the support.

I can't say thank you enough. I can't pray hard enough. Please, fight hard and with all the positive energy, thoughts and prayer surrounding you, you will be just fine.

Love always,
The Vavoulis Family

Dear Mr. Daly,

Upon hearing the Pistons' announcement recently I was saddened to hear the news of your cancer.

I am sure you don't remember, but I had the of meeting you at a restaurant in Mizner Park quite a few years ago when I lived in Florida. Since I am a native Michigander, no matter where I've lived around the country...the Pistons' were (and are) "my boys". You helped put the Pistons' (and Michigan) on the map with the Bad Boys and the NBA has never been the same since! Yea!

The power of prayer is truly awesome and you must know there are many, many people that are praying for you and your family because we love you. That's what Michigander's do in times of need -- we pull together.

Take care and get well,
Sherri Sprey

Dear Chuck,

I should probably address you as Mr. Daly but I feel like I know you as a friend. Those Bad Boy days are forever branded in my memory.

I want to express my heartfelt sadness at the news of your condition. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

You are a basketball genius, a psychologist extraordinaire and a true gentleman.

I hope God watches over you and your family through this dark journey. And I pray to God that you prevail.

Love and admiration,

Dave Beaupre
A Piston Fan Forever

Dear Coach,

I became a Piston fan mostly because of you for the way you treated your players and the way you coached.

I wish you a speedy recovery and that you beat this like your teams did to the rest of the NBA.

I'm proud to be a Piston fan because of you!

My prayers are with you and your family!

Piston Jeff in Santa Cruz CA

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your fight right now. I was a young teen when I became a basketball and Pistons fan. Everyone was telling me to become a Lakers or Celtics fan, but your team, with its hard work and gritty style of play really stuck with me. I can still remember watching the finals with my cousin. I'll never forget how smooth you looked. Pat Riley was good, but TOO slick. You were all class. Now, I'm a teacher and coach and I try to instill hard work and class into the kids whether in their studies or through sports. You're a part of that. Keep fighting and working hard to beat this demon. God bless you, Chuck, and know that through good or bad, your legacy is secure with me.

You are THE MAN! You are and always will be one of the greatest coaches/men that the NBA has ever had in its ranks. We love you and wish nothing the best for you and your family.

Coach Daly,

As a loyal and die hard Piston fan it was with great sadness that I had to hear that you had been diagnosed with cancer. I hope and pray that you will beat this terrible disease. I have seen first hand what cancer is due to the fact that I have lost both of my grand parents to cancer. I DO know one thing..... and that is that as the man who taught a rag-tag group of hustlers like the BAD BOYS you showed them how to work hard, fight, and never give up on a game. Well Coach Daly, it is now your turn to work hard, FIGHT, and NEVER GIVE UP to this weak opponent in cancer. As I said earlier I am LOYAL PISTON FAN that happens to now teach school in Chicago. Today I taught a lesson about the man that I took so many lesson from when I was a kid...my students asked who taught me these lessons and I said the greatest coach EVER..... their response was of course Phil Jackson....I had to correct them and say no it was COACH CHUCK DALY!!!

Get well soon Coach the PALACE and this year's Pistons need you to show them one more time how to FIGHT LIKE A BAD BOY!!! Becuase your the original BAD BOY!!!

Matt

Mr. Daly

I wanted you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. I have been a Piston fan since (the only on in Iowa) the early 80's and watching you and the "bad" boys win back to back championships helped me through a dark period in my life. Please know that all of the Detroit Piston fans are thinking and praying for you and your family.
