Detroit Pistons Win Three Business Awards at Annual NBA Sales And Marketing Meetings

Team Recognized For Success in Corporate Marketing and Group Sales Efforts

The Detroit Pistons were a dominant force at the recent Annual NBA Sales and Marketing Meetings held in New York City. The team’s Corporate Marketing Department and Group Sales team maintained their status among the league’s most respected units by scoring three top business awards.

The Pistons’ Corporate Marketing Department was among a handful of teams to receive awards in two separate categories:

  • An Account Performance Award for being one of four teams who sold more than 100 sponsorships at a minimum of $25,000 while placing second overall.
  • One of only seven teams in the league to receive the Category Performance Award for selling clients in all of the top 50 categories with 26 being at or above the league average which ranked the Pistons fifth among all NBA teams.

The awards received this year give the Pistons the honor of being the only five-time winner of the Account Performance Award since the awards were first presented in 2006-07 and a four-time winner of the Category Performance Award.

In addition to the Corporate Sales honors, the Pistons were recognized for their group sales by placing first among the five teams who received the 3,000 Group Tickets Award, selling an average of 5,087 group tickets per game. This is the fifth consecutive year the Pistons have won this honor since the Awards Ceremony’s inception in 2006-07.

“It is especially rewarding to see how our Corporate Marketing and Group Sales departments have in the face of numerous challenges continued to excel among their league peers,” said Pistons and Palace Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) President and CEO Alan Ostfield. “Their high rankings show interest in our team is still there and, through hard work and dedication to providing value and service, we can overcome those obstacles and provide a product everyone can be proud of.”

“We are proud of earning the Account Performance and Category Performance awards again this year as it illustrates our staff continues to find and meet the needs of our clients,” said Pistons and PS&E Executive Vice President Dan Hauser. “This tremendous corporate support shows that our sponsors continue to see the value of associating with the Pistons brand as well as reaching our fan base.”

“For our Group Sales department to lead the league in ticket sales for five consecutive years speaks to the high level of commitment, work ethic and creativity of the entire staff,” said Pistons and PS&E Senior Vice President of Sales Shawn Kuzmin. “I don’t believe there is one NBA market that has been hit as hard by the economy as ours, yet our Group Sales staff, with assistance from our Corporate and Outside Sales groups, continues to find ways to create appealing offers for our fans.”
