Rick Carlisle Not to Return as Pistons' Coach
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that Rick Carlisle will not return next season as the team’s head coach.
“This was a difficult decision to make,” Dumars said. “I want to thank Rick and his staff for their hard work and dedication. However, at this time, I have decided to make a change.”
Carlisle, who was named head coach on May 23, 2001, tallied a regular-season record of 100-64 in two seasons with the Pistons. In two trips to the NBA Playoffs under Carlisle, the Pistons were 12-15.
