Pistons Head Coach John Kuester

(On the game)
“Going into this game, one of the things we talked about to the team was controlling the pace of the game was going to be important and understanding that the guys that hadn't had the opportunity to play were going to get an opportunity to show that they could play and step up their game; that's the biggest thing. When you get into an environment where you’re down on numbers, you want to make sure that you play a game in which you don't beat yourself and that's what our guys did. I thought our guys did a great job of controlling the pace, understanding the ball getting from one side to the other and having guys come up with good plays, especially at the end.”
(On having key players out):
A victory is so sweet, there's no question. You'll always miss guys that are an intricate part of what you want to get accomplished, but (it’s great) having other players step up and play big roles. You have to be careful because a lot of times when they see other players out, especially our starters, you try to do too much. That's one of the things I thought our players did. They made plays, they complemented each other and they did a great job defensively.
Pistons Forward Charlie Villanueva

(On the game)
“Effort was there. As soon as that ball went up the effort was there. Guys were determined and concentrating on defense. We were really focused on that third quarter. That was our Achilles heel in the past few games that we have lost.”
(On playing shorthanded)
“It just creates opportunities for other guys to step up. Guys took a challenge and play good defense down the stretch and made big shoots. Will (Bynum) played tremendously well giving us a spark when we needed him off the bench.”
Pistons Center Kwame Brown

(On playing shorthanded)
“Being shorthanded, we could not do this without being together. We just wanted come out at set the tone on defense. We got defensive minded at practice, so we just came out and transferred it on the floor.”
(On the mindset before the game)
“Other guys got to step up, and it is going to take a team effort. You can’t rely on our guys to be out there when they are hurt. We got guys that can step in and play hard.”
(On playing Dwight Howard)
“We just had to throw enough bodies at him. We watched tape, watched his moves. He likes to come hard, dip his shoulder. We just had to keep focusing on him. Unfortunately for them, he was not able to play a lot. He got a lot of fouls. We just have to keep coming hard. We got them again in couple of days.”
Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

(On the Magic)
“There were only two guys that played decently and they were Jason Williams and Matt (Barnes) and I only played Jason 14 minutes. That’s bad on my part too, we didn’t play together and we forced play after play after play. I don’t think we defended badly, other then the fact that we fouled constantly. We just didn’t make very good plays, didn’t make good decisions, forced plays, didn’t shoot well when we did get shots. It was just a very bad night all the way around.”
(On their three-pointers)
“We didn’t have a lot to do. We only had Dwight (Howard) for 17 minutes, so we couldn’t go to the post. Vince (Carter) was really unable to attack. He made some shots, but we were running pick-and-roll for him and he didn’t take the ball to the basket a single time. I don’t think he felt comfortable on that ankle, and Jameer (Nelson) had a nightmare. He couldn’t dribble the ball more than two times without losing it. Our game is the ball has to move. I don’t care who’s in there and the ball didn’t move tonight, I thought we probably took more bad shots tonight than we have in the first three games combined. I think you have to give their defense a lot of credit; a lot of credit.”
Magic Guard Jameer Nelson

(On the game) “We tried to force things offensively and we didn’t play our game as a team, we tried to hit a homerun, we tried to do things individually. We definitely missed Dwight, but we still had our opportunity and we still had our chances. I think if we stayed a little more poised than we did down the stretch, then it could have been a little different.”
(Poor 3-Point Shooting) “Just make solid plays, I came down the stretch and lost the ball a couple times, when you have a guy like Bynum and the way they were getting to the line, you definitely want to minimize your turnovers as much as you can. The thing is we’re learning and the good thing is about the NBA that you have another game tomorrow and in this case it’s a great thing.”
