POSTGAME QUOTES
Pistons Head Coach Flip Saunders

“We got a week to get ready now; we’ve turned things up. Got a few things we need to work on. I thought offensive execution this time was good tonight, especially early, and the guys did a pretty nice job the last six minutes of the fourth quarter.”

On playing back-to-back:
“We had a situation where we had some guys playing back-to-back and we didn’t play as well the second night of the back-to-back.”

On Amir Johnson:
“He does make the most (of game minutes). He’s a great guy, right spot, right time, and he shows that he’s got a bright future - no question.”

Pistons Forward Tayshaun Prince

On playing preseason games:
“We’re just glad it’s over, now we got a week of practice and we’ll be ready to go.”

On the bench:
“Our only main concern was to get Nazr (Mohammad) into the starting role, to get familiar with us basically. We (the starters) pretty much played the first and third quarters throughout the preseason. I think just getting Nazr acclimated into the starting role as far as getting some minutes out of the four guys is pretty much what we got out of it. I think the bench got the most out of it as far as getting those guys minutes and trying to get ready for the regular season.”

On rebounding the ball:
“It’s something we got to be conscious of, but I think it’s just going to have to be a collective unit. Obviously it’s a situation where for four years you had Ben (Wallace) back there and all of a sudden now you’re kind of hesitant to go get it. Now we just have to get more conscious of getting the basketball. That’s just something that’s going to have to be done in practice and try to carry over to the game.”

Grizzlies Head Coach Mike Fratello

On the game:
“It was a really good performance for us to wind up the preseason. We understand we’re going to come back here very shortly in the regular season but we needed to see some different combinations in our last game. I thought they (Pistons) gave us a really solid game and Rudy (Gay) made good things happen tonight. If you make shots, you have a chance to hang in games and that’s what we did.” On Rudy Gay’s game:
“He’s a young man that we want to be patient with. You can’t expect everything to happen over night. Tonight was a big step forward from last night’s performance and that’s what we want to have happen. Understand what has to be done, how you do it and try to make the improvement. It’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as his career in the league. Hopefully he’ll stay healthy and have a long successful career.”

Grizzlies Guard Rudy Gay

On playing a real game:
“The way they’ve got us ready is to treat every game like it’s a real game. You get better and better.”

On his transition to the pros:
“It’s going slow but I think that, hopefully, a couple games into the regular season I will know my role and exactly how to fulfill it.”
