POSTGAME QUOTES
Pistons Head Coach Flip Saunders

On the game:
”My thought was we might as well play Playstation. It was a hard fought game. Both teams played hard. You don’t want a game decided by technical fouls. I just don’t agree but everyone has got to adjust if that’s the way it’s going to be. We’re hurting the fans. You can’t see the excitement in the game, guys can’t react. The thing about it is everybody is so judgmental. Every referee is a little bit different in how they’re going to call it. Every player is different. This has been a good game. I don’t even know why we need to change every thing.”

On Rasheed Wallace in the second half:
“He got aggressive. We went to him, he dominated. He brought us back. “

“The most amazing thing was we were right there to win it. Chauncey was terrible tonight, his shots weren’t going in. Our bench continued to play. Those guys brought us back in the fourth quarter. That’s encouraging. You come into a place like this; they’re playing well. They play hard. You want to be in a situation where you let the players decide and I don’t think it was totally that way down the stretch.”

On the Jazz team:
“They’re very athletic, very deep. They’re not just based on one or two guys. They’ve got a lot of players that can hurt you. They’re going to be here for a while and they’re going to be good for a while.”

Pistons Guard Chauncey Billups

On the game:
“It was hard fought. It was a good game against a really good team. They (Utah) are playing really well. We knew they were going to come in and push the tempo, play extremely hard, extremely physical, and they did all of that. We just wanted to stay close and have a chance at the end and we did. We blew some opportunities.”

On the technical fouls:
“It’s getting old already. It’s getting old already, you know, it’s deciding games. No excuses, that’s one thing that I don’t do I don’t make excuses. I felt that if I would have played a little better, we would have won the game. I played horrible and we still had a chance to win.”

Pistons Forward Tayshaun Prince

On the game:
“Both teams played great tonight. It’s always tough coming in here trying to stop them from running their offense. We know they’re the most well coached team in the league as far as running their offense up to a ‘T’ all five guys. We knew that coming in.”

“Once again we gave up a few lay-ups, but…that’s going to happen playing against them because they run their offense so well.”

“A couple tough breaks at the end you know that pretty much just cost the game, but both teams played great, you know somebody’s got to lose.”

Jazz Head Coach Jerry Sloan

On being balanced:
“I wasn’t so much worried about the scoring balance as I was about the defensive balance. If we’re going to be a team with any substance we need to learn how to defend.”

On Deron Williams and Derek Fisher taking charges late in the game:
“The biggest thing is we did compete. We tried to make plays defensively.”

On withstanding Detroit’s runs:
“Our guys stood up and challenged them (Pistons) and didn’t seem intimidated. You can’t let anybody intimidate you. If you do you’re going to be intimidated the rest of your life.”

On heading out on the road:
“Well we had them out a long time in the exhibition season. I think it was pretty good for them. Hopefully we’ll understand what you got to do to get yourself ready to play every single night, because every game is so important.”

Jazz Guard Derek Fisher

On what is helping sustain this winning streak:
“I think our contributions from everyone that’s playing. I don’t think we’re resting on one or two guys carrying us on a nightly basis and if they have an off night then we just have to pick a number for a guy to pick us up. Literally every guy that’s playing for us is giving us something – offensively and defensively.”

On how this game stacks up against the other 3 games of the season:
“It was definitely one of the most physical wins in the first four games. We really had to be strong out there physically and emotionally. It was just a good tough basketball game. Both teams just really played hard and we were the team that came out with the win tonight.”

Jazz Guard Deron Williams

On the last offensive play for the Jazz:
“Well it was kind of a broken play and I came off and I really didn’t have a shot so I tried to tend the corner and got cut off and I knew there wasn’t much time on the clock so I just kind of threw it up there. The rebound bounced to Rasheed and I just got my hand in there a little bit, knocked it away, grabbed it, should have held on to it, but I didn’t really have a good grip on it so I tried to kick it out to fish (Fisher).”

On the block of the last shot by Detroit:
“I saw the block, both Memo and AK (Kirilenko) got it. I didn’t really know how much time was on the clock at that point, but I say Chauncey pick up the ball and that’s when I was a little nervous cause he had a wide open lay-up.”

On the Jazz’s defensive play:
“That’s what won the ballgame for us. They came back and got the lead. We got some stops defensively and then made a couple plays on offense. That’s the ballgame.”
