Postgame Quotes - February 25, 2009
New Orleans: Byron Scott | Tyson Chandler | Peja Stojakovic
Pistons Head Coach Michael Curry
On the game: “We got unraveled a little bit, but still we have to keep our composure as a team. Those two technical’s and throwing Rasheed (Wallace) out hurt. I thought we still had a chance; it’s just tough I thought we did as good as of a job as we could have defending Chris (Paul). We still should’ve tried to find a way to come up with a rebound on those last two possessions.”
“Anytime you don’t get the victory it’s disappointing but the way you play also means something. We played better last night against Miami, and then we had a bad stretch in the third. We were more alert today with a three-point shooting crew tonight. We did a lot of things established post ups, got some perimeter shots.”
On Rasheed Wallace: “I was disappointed; I tried to get him out before he got it (the technical). He’s an emotional guy, but I was proud of the way he played tonight (Before the Technical).
Pistons Guard Richard Hamilton
On the game: “We spotted them 10 points at the beginning of the game, and that’s been our biggest problem. When you play a great team like [the Hornets], you spot them 10 points, even if you make a run, they’re going to make another run at some point in the game. We can’t score 13 points and be down 10 in the first quarter [and win].”
On Fighting back from Iverson’s Injury and Wallace’s Ejection: “I thought that we played hard. I thought we really shared the ball; we had a lot of movement. When you’re not playing as well as we have been, these losses hurt. [Wallace’s ejection] was a blow, but we told ourselves we had to dig and fight. It happens. We felt we weren’t out of the game.
“It’s always something, like a missed opportunity to get a defensive rebound, they get it, and come up with two free throws, and then we’re down 3 with six seconds to go. So we’ve got to get back to playing Pistons basketball.”
On Playing Most of the Game Without Allen Iverson: “The way we’ve have been starting, is the way [head coach Michael Curry] wants. I’ve said I’m happy to come off the bench as long as we’re winning. But we’re losing. We’re now 4-12 with me coming off the bench. Something’s got to give. I’m all for doing whatever it takes for the team, but coming off the bench with us not winning, something’s got to change.”
Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott
On Game: “They came out and played extremely well the 2nd quarter. I knew it was going to be a tight game all the way. I am glad we made some big plays in the end and got the stops when we needed to. We have been talking about rebounds all season long. West and Chandler got 27 out of 51 rebounds. That is how the game is won; the game is won in the trenches. The last couple games we have done a much better job in that department. We caught them at a good time.”
On Tyson Chandler: “He gives us the opportunity to get second chance points; all the little things we have been missing since he has been out. For two games, his return has been unbelievable. We are a better defensive and rebounding team when he is there. He is the best communicator on the floor. He is the most athletic guy we have. He is our best post defender. It wasn’t his time to leave and we thank God that it wasn’t.”
Hornets Center Tyson Chandler
On the game: “I actually thought this was going to be a close game. When we got the lead in the first quarter, I knew if we didn’t push to sustain that lead that they would stay around. They have a lot of pride in them; they came to fight tonight.”
On the game: “They (the Pistons) have got a great defense. They came in and played hard. (Jason) Maxiell did a great job of coming in and getting second opportunities and just scrambling down low.”
Hornets Forward Peja Stojakovic
On Tyson Chandler’s return: “We’ve been struggling on the defensive end and in rebounding. Tyson (Chandler) has really stepped up the last two games that he’s been back. You can see he’s already elevated us at the defensive end. He does so many things for us. When you have an inside presence, it makes things much easier. I think the main thing tonight was our defense. We were able to pull it out in the end.”
