For the first time in Detroit sports history, a team will devote an entire day, including their game and their broadcast, to a telethon that will raise money for charity with the inaugural Pistons Cares Telethon. Benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, the Pistons are asking everyone in the Pistons community to help them reach their goals of granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Suzie has a lot in common with Jr. Automotion’s Sarah Greenwald.

Like Sarah, Suzie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common type of cancer contracted by children, when she was five years old.

Like Sarah, Suzie has endured chemotherapy and months of rigorous treatment for the cancer, which affects the blood and bone marrow.

Like Sarah, Suzie is a Wish kid who asked for a trip to Disney World, where she hopes meet princesses like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

The difference is, Suzie still is waiting for her wish to come true.

The wait will end soon. Suzie’s wish will be one of several wishes granted with the donations raised by the Pistons Cares Telethon Benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.

Suzie lives in Tecumseh with her parents, Shannon and Ben, and her two brothers, Joseph and Daniel. They hope to visit other relatives in Florida while on their Wish trip, which includes stops at Orlando attractions like Sea World and Universal Studios.

The Greenwalds said after their trip that looking forward to their Wish coming true was almost as good as the trip itself. Suzie’s family is enjoying the anticipation right now. They plan to take their trip at the end of March. Before they leave, Suzie’s family will be at the Pistons game March 14 for the telethon. “Our family hopes to give back and do things for Make-A-Wish because I know what they’ve done for us and what a joy it’s been,” Shannon said.
