For the first time in Detroit sports history, a team will devote an entire day, including their game and their broadcast, to a telethon that will raise money for charity with the inaugural Pistons Cares Telethon. Benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, the Pistons are asking everyone in the Pistons community to help them reach their goals of granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Bruce will not be able to attend the Pistons Cares Telethon on March 14 at The Palace, but his presence will be felt nonetheless. He is one of the “Wish kids” who will have his wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan with the funds raised by the telethon.

Bruce will be undergoing surgery in early March to alleviate the complications from hydrocephalus, formerly known in layman’s terms as “water on the brain.” The excess buildup of cerebrospinal fluid around Bruce’s brain can induce seizures, which the surgery hopefully will minimize.

Like a lot of 10-year-olds, Bruce’s favorite movies are “Transformers” and Disney’s “High School Musical,” but his wish is not to go to Disney World. Instead, he asked for a three-wheel bike that he hopes to use for exercise and to help him recover from surgery. (When he’s not reading his “Teen Titans” comics or listening to jazz music.)

Bruce lives in Detroit with his parents, Bruce and Roberta, and his sister, Imani. As the picture attests, Bruce is a huge Pistons fan. He’ll have to miss the game March 14, but the Pistons hope to see Bruce rolling into The Palace at another game soon.
