Auburn Hills, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons, Detroit Shock and American Community Mutual Insurance Company announced today that Hilary Antal from Winston Churchill High School and Daniel Olsen from LaSalle High School are March’s Student-Athletes of the Month. They will each receive a $1,000 college scholarship and be honored on-court during halftime when the Pistons take on the Philadelphia 76ers March 20th at 7:30 pm.

Hilary Antal is a senior at Winston Churchill High School in Livonia, Mich. During Hilary’s high school years, she has played on the varsity basketball, varsity softball and varsity tennis team. She has also played on the junior varsity volleyball team. While playing sports all four years of school, Hilary has maintained a 3.5 G.P.A and has been active her sophomore and junior year on the debate team. Hilary plans to attend University of Michigan-Dearborn to earn her bachelor’s degree in political science. Afterwards, she hopes to attend law school.

“Hilary Antal is truly one of the great ones,” said Marc Hage, Winston Churchill High School’s athletic director. “Her character, integrity, morals and values are of the highest ethical fiber.”

Daniel Olsen is a senior at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, Mich. Dan has participated in basketball, baseball cross-country, football and track. Dan was named as the all-conference honorable mention in basketball and was the varsity basketball team captain. He was also named all-conference in cross-country. Dan has also succeeded academically. He serves in the National Honor Society and was also selected as the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Scholar Athlete Finalist. Upon graduation, Dan plans to attend Albion College to play basketball and major in pre-dentistry.

“Dan is an excellent student athlete. He exhibits leadership, a great work ethic and a commitment on the court as well in the classroom,” said Doug Ingalls, LaSalle High School’s basketball coach. “His strong senior leadership is evident, not only on the court, but in all aspects of our school environment.”

Through the scholarship program, a male and female student-athlete will each receive a $1,000 scholarship during January, February, March and April 2007. All applicants must be seniors in high school and plan to further their education upon graduation. The student must also attend a high school in Michigan and obtain an endorsement from a coach or athletic director as part of the application.

Student-athletes who would like to apply can visit pistons.com/community to download an application. Students should be prepared to answer questions related to the following: academic achievement, athletic performance, extra curricular activities and the students’ plan upon graduation from high school. The sport that student-athletes participate in does not need to be in season (i.e., Fall 2006 or Winter 2007 sports are included). More than one student from a school can apply at the same time. If a student is not selected for the specific month for which they applied, they will automatically be considered for future awards.
