Amir Johnson Returning to High School
“Count Day is important because it allows the school to count the students and allocate funds to the district, which allows us to provide more needed services to improve student achievement,” said Assistant Principal Lisa Robinson.
Last year, of the 1,820 students enrolled, 1,365 showed on Count Day, a 75 percent show rate.
To help combat slumping attendance numbers, Johnson will greet students as they arrive, pass out school supplies, hand out autograph cards and participate in the morning announcements. Two lucky students will also be awarded laptop computers, courtesy of the Pistons-Palace Foundation.
Joining Johnson will be FM98 WJLB’s radio personality, Dr. Darrius, who will call in to the station’s morning show from the high school.
This Back to School Event is a part of NBA Cares and Read to Achieve, which is presented by Rock Financial, Sprite, Belle Tire, Metro PCS, Detroit Medical Center, National City, Tim Hortons, Absopure, Bowling Centers Association of Southeastern Michigan and Ticketmaster.
Osborn High School is located at 11600 E. 7 Mile Road, Detroit, MI 48205.
