“American Community is proud to support a program that rewards students for both their academic and athletic achievements,” said Gerald Meach, President and CEO of American Community.
Through the program, a male and female student-athlete will each receive a $1,000 scholarship during January, February, March and April 2007. All applicants must be seniors in high school and plan to further their education upon graduation. The student must also attend a high school in Michigan and obtain an endorsement from a coach or athletic director as part of the application. Selected students will be honored on-court during a Pistons home game.
Student-athletes who would like to apply should visit Pistons.com/community to complete an application. Students should be prepared to answer questions related to the following: academic achievement, athletic performance, extra curricular activities and the students’ plan upon graduation from high school. The sport that student-athletes participate in does not need to be in season (i.e., Fall 2006 or Winter 2007 sports are included). More than one student from a school can apply at the same time. If a student is not selected for the specific month for which they applied, they will automatically be considered for future awards.
