Over 8,400 passionate Filipino fans witnessed the success of the second consecutive NBA Asia Challenge staged at the Araneta Coliseum in Metro Manila on Friday (August 27).

The NBA Asia Challenge, one of the most exciting basketball events in the Philippines, presented the authentic NBA in-game entertainment with an exhibition game featuring two teams of the best NBA and PBA Legends, the D-League and PBA stars, the electrify dance performances by the Miami Heat Dancers, comedy shows of Burnie, as well as different on-court games with the participations of the fans.

PBA legend Allan “The Triggerman” Caidic, who was considered to be the best PBA’s long-distance shooter of all-time, led the RED Team to beat the WHITE Team 177 to 167 with a game-high 54 points in 24 minutes. “The Triggerman” also recorded a perfect 2-point field-goal percentage (6 out of 6) and over 53% from the 3-point line.

Eight players in the RED Team scored in double digits. NBA Legends Glen Rice recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in 45 minutes, and Gary Payton scored 7 points and dished out 6 assists in 24 minutes. D-League player Darnell Lazare, the second leading scorer in the team, made 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in 28 minutes and Chris McCray had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in 32 minutes.

NBA Legend Chris Webber led the WHITE Team with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds and contributed 6 assists in 42 minutes. D-League player and former PBA-import Richie Frahm also scored 24 points in 31 minutes. All nine players in the WHITE Team scored in double-digits. NBA Legend Mitch Richmond recorded 16 points in 35 minutes while D-League player Mark Tyndale scored 22 points in 30 minutes. PBA Legend Ronnie “the Point Laureate” Magsanoc recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists, with the perfect field-goal percentage (8 out of 8).

Today (August 28), the NBA Legends and D-League players visited the Habitat community in Kalookan City and conducted an NBA Cares basketball clinics for over 60 kids there.

Metro Manila rocks with NBA Asia Challenge! In addition to morning show appearance, live radio interviews and attendance of event partners’ activities, the NBA talent, including the NBA Legends, D-League players and the Miami Heat Dance Team also participated in the NBA Asia Challenge Mall Tour at the SM Mall of Asia today (August 26).

The mall tour featured a variety of elements such as dance performance by the Miami Heat Dancers, a basketball clinic hosted by D-League players and PBA stars, autograph sessions, different basketball competitions as well as interaction with the NBA Legends.

Chris Webber also met with one of his super fans Jerry at the venue and as a gesture for his ultimate support, Chris invited him and his family to watch the game that will be staged at the Araneta Coliseum tomorrow (August 27).

It is all about NBA basketball in the Philippines! The second consecutive NBA Asia Challenge creates frenzy in the city of Manila with some of the most amazing NBA talent, including NBA Legends Gary Payton, Mitch Richmond, Glen Rice and Chris Webber; stars from the NBA Development League Richie Frahm, Darnell Lazare, Mark Tyndale and Chris McCray; and of course, the Miami Heat Dancers and Burnie. They are the hottest topics among the Filipino media and fans this week.

Yesterday (August 25) was the day of NBA Cares. NBA Legends Gary Payton and Glen Rice, along with the PBA Legends and NBA D-League players Chris McCray and Darnell Lazare, conducted a basketball clinic for about 40 children of a community under the care of ex-PBA player Jason Webb, now a city councilor of District 1 in Paranaque. While NBA Legends Mitch Richmond and Chris Webber, as well as D-League players Richie Frahm and Mark Tyndale hosted a Read to Achieve program at the Ali Mall.

Another highlight event was the Grand Finals of the Coors-Light NBA Pop-A-Shot Tour. The top 25 finalists competed for the crown of the tour and Richard Ching won the first-ever NBA Pop-A-Shot title with a record-breaking 457 points. The Grand Finals also featured special guests Glen Rice, Darnell Lazare, Mark Tyndale, Chris McCray and the Miami Heat Dancers.

On August 24, 80 journalists from over 60 media affiliations attended the Welcome Press Conference and comprehensive news coverage was generated across different media platforms.

Metro Manila is ready to rock with the exhibition game at the Araneta Coliseum this Friday (August 27) that will feature the match-up of RED Team and WHITE Team, each comprised of a mixed roster of NBA Legends, NBA D-League players as well as PBA Legends and current stars, and the authentic NBA in-game entertainment provided by the Miami Heat Dancers and Burine!
