Pelicans-Suns Postgame: Locker Room Quotes 11/25/15

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry:

On their first road win:
“It’s been a long time coming really. I think we’re getting healthy and we’re starting to figure it out a little bit. We had a bad start. I was disappointed in the way we started the game from the standpoint of intensity. I didn’t think we had the intensity we needed to start the game. The good thing about it is I thought we regrouped and played well the rest of the way.”

“I really thought that the second unit came in and did a good job. The second unit came in and defensively they were really good and they pushed the basketball and came up with some easy baskets. They kind of turned the whole game I thought. And once they did and the other guys locked in and focused in on what we needed to do, I thought we played well.”

“They’re a really good offensive team. They run a lot of really good stuff. They’ve got two guards who are really good and they’ve got shooters off the bench. Leuer, I thought, had a really good game for them. When we needed to we came up with stops and when we needed to, we made the big plays.”

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis:

On the slow start:
“We just weren’t playing hard. And when you’re not playing hard and you’re playing lackadaisical on defense and they’re making shots its tough. But we picked it up at the end. We started defending and started talking and playing harder and we were able to come back and get a win.”

“Our second unit got us going. If it wasn’t for them, we probably weren’t’ going to win this game. Our first unity came back in and kept it going and that’s why you have a second unit that bring energy like the guys we have and they got us back in the game.”

Pelicans Guard Eric Gordon:

On tonight's game:
“Coach got on us at halftime and throughout the game and we had to turn it around. We played more together as a team, we were knocking down shots, playing way better defense. They had their way. They were attacking and you don’t want that team attacking all the time.”

“Our second unit did very well. They brought us back into the game and brought us momentum and gave us a chance and in that second half we really turned it around.”

On the defense on Bledsoe drives at end of game:

“You know always one of their guards is going to take one of those shots. They play make and have the ball in their hands all the time. We just met them at the rim, we didn’t want any threes and we played good D at the end.”

Suns Forward P.J. Tucker

On losing the last three games:
“We’ve got to change it, we can’t sit around and wait for luck, tonight we beat ourselves. We had a big lead early, they played a great game, but we let them do what they wanted.”

On the referees allowing a physical game:
“They let a lot of contact on one side, I won’t say which. We got to play the game, at the end of the day the refs are going to be the refs, they change from different nights, we just have to play, and at the end of tonight, we didn’t do that.”

On if the Suns’ are better than their record:
“We’re getting back into some of our old ways as of late, not finishing games, giving teams easy baskets, bad communication and not doing what we are supposed to do. It doesn’t come from nothing, it’s not just we so happen to lose these close games. This didn’t have to be a close game, we let it be.”

Suns Forward Jon Leuer

On impact in the fourth quarter after coming off the bench:
“It was good to get into a rhythm and help the team. There were a couple possessions down the stretch we’d like to have back. A lot of games in the NBA come down to the last few possessions and how you execute and get stops. We just came up a little short tonight.”

On his open look from the top of the key in the fourth quarter:
“It was just a little short, it felt good when it left my hand but you know that’s basketball. You make some you miss some; you just have to keep being confident.”

On the Suns’ play during the second half:
“I thought we did a better job sharing the ball in the second half. We just needed to be a bit more solid defensively. We scored enough to win the game, but at the end of the day we have to get more stops down the stretch. ”

Suns Guard Eric Bledsoe

On returning to play after the knee injury:
“It doesn’t matter about how my knee feels, we needed to win.”

On his last drive against Anthony Davis:
“I think I had the layup first, but I put myself on the ground after I pump faked. We play them again, so we just got to win up until the end.”
