Pelicans-Nets Postgame: Locker Room Quotes 1-30-16

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry:

On the win:
“It was up and down and I thought both teams played well, really. We had a tough time stopping them and then after we got going, I thought they had a hard time stopping us, but I thought we did a great job, defensively, in the third quarter. Then we kind collapsed in the fourth (quarter), giving up thirty seven. All of them are not going to be pretty wins. All of them are not going to be exactly as you want them to be, but any win is a good win. In twenty seven years, I’ve never had a bad win in the NBA.”

On the final two possessions:
“We were trying to get the ball over the top to Anthony (Davis), but we did say that if that wasn’t there, we like Jrue (Holiday) with the basketball and he came up with a big shot. And then the last play, we were just going to try to go high screen-and-roll, come off hard and either Anthony (Davis) was going to be free rolling or he (Holiday) was probably going to have to take a shot. They did a pretty good job defensively and he just made a great shot; a tough shot.”

Pelicans Guard Jrue Holiday:

On if he was looking for Anthony Davis on his made 3-pointer:
“Yeah. He had the point guard on him, so that’s obviously a mismatch that we want: 6’11 against 6 feet. At that time we had 54 seconds left, so I just stepped back and let it go.”

On three straight wins:
“We know that we needed to take advantage of this stretch at home. We know that we have an advantage here when the crowd gets into it, it really helps. We know the style and tempo that we need to play. The big thing is that we have been consistent lately at home and I think it is because everyone is dialed in. It starts on the defensive end and that translates to the offense."

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis:

On his shots tonight:
“It’s basketball. You’re going to miss shots, you’re going to make shots. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take, so out of the ones I took (in the second half), I missed three. Just keep sticking with it, keep playing the way you’ve been playing, trusting your game. It’s tough when you’re not making shots, but just try to do things on the other end, and on the offensive end to help my team win."

On Jrue Holiday:
“Yeah. He took big shots, he’s Jrue Holiday…it’s nothing new for him. That’s the good thing about him too, he doesn’t care if he starts. He just wants to be in the game and that’s what counts. I’m glad we had him in the game, he made some big shots for us tonight."
