What the Portland Trail Blazers had to say about 111-103 win over the Pelicans (3/14/14)

Trail Blazers Head Coach Terry Stotts
On the team’s performance tonight

“A much needed win, needless to say, but I was really proud of the way we competed. Our focus, the style of play, just the way we moved the ball defensively, even though we gave up 103 (points) I thought defensively we did a lot of good things. Everybody that was on the floor tonight really had an impact on the game.”

On what makes his small lineup so effective

“In this league if you have guys on the perimeter who can shoot and make plays it opens things up for the offense. That’s why I thought defensively that was more of the key tonight. When you play lineups like that you’re expected to open up the court and we had a lot of good shooters out there so you’d expect to score some good points, but the key was that we were able to defend.”

Trail Blazers Forward Nicolas Batum
On win vs. Pelicans

“It was a huge win for us, we really needed this game losing LaMarcus Aldridge. We came together as a team tonight to get this win and it felt great.”

On the come behind win

“We made a late game push and did what we had to do in order to come from behind. (Damian) Lillard came up with some big shots in the end which helped us seal this win tonight.”

Trail Blazers Forward Dorell Wright
On Nicolas Batum’s play

“Yeah he had a big game tonight. He stepped up tonight and had a huge game for us. He knew how important tonight’s win was with the injury to (LaMarcus) Aldridge.”

On the late game push

“We stuck together at the end of the game and came up with some big shots late. Our players knew how to keep calm and play the way we had been practicing.”
