What the Pelicans had to say about 105-100 win over the Hawks (2/5/14)

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams
On the win
“We started the game off in a decent manner and then they took control of the game for a good segment into the third quarter, and then I just thought our defense picked up where we wanted it to. We got a lot of stops and scored. That’s the formula. If you look at the rebound column everybody rebounded tonight and that’s something we haven’t had all year long.”

On Brian Roberts
“Brian Roberts probably looked around and didn’t see anyone making shots so he stepped up. I told him to play free. The first half I thought he was a bit tight. I’m always telling our guys everybody has written you guys off, so what do you have to lose? Just go out there and play. I got your back either way.”

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis
On the key to winning the game
“Defense. We played defense and executed offensively. They hit a lot of threes during that second half, but we just had to make sure we stayed the course. We rebounded the ball, made shots, made free throws and at the end, we when needed it, we defended. [Anthony Morrow] played big tonight again. We’re going to continue to need him to play like that in a couple more games before the All-Star [break].”

On improving on his performance after the game against San Antonio
“Be aggressive. [Anthony Morrow] tells me to be great before every game. I try to go in there and be great every game. I was just trying to be aggressive. I wasn’t really aggressive against San Antonio. I told myself I was going come out and be aggressive because the team feeds off my energy. When they see me going, the whole team goes. So I got to try to do that every game.”

Pelicans guard Anthony Morrow
On his strong play in the last two games
“The opportunity is there. There have been great screens from the big guys and the point guards are finding me. So I’m trying to come in and contribute and contribute to these wins. It’s a blessing to get those opportunities to come in and play.”

On his defense and working to improve
“I can get better. I’m trying to pick my spots and know my matchups. I got a guy like [Kyle] Korver, early on in the game I had a guy like Louis Williams. Watching film and coming in, I can try to take them out of what they want to do. I think I did a pretty good job of that, and I just want to be able to contribute defensively so I can contribute offensively for the team.”
