What the Pelicans had to say about 103-99 win over the Knicks (12/1/13)

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams
On tonight’s game
“It was a great win for us. Any time you can win on the road, winning eight games period, is special in the NBA. Winning on the road for us as a young team and the way we won, we didn’t have our best stuff in the first half and we were just trying to put it together in the second half. A bunch of guys stepped up, Ryan (Anderson) and Tyreke (Evans) off the bench and Al-Farouq’s (Aminu) visibility to come in in the second half after sitting the last game was huge for us. We didn’t get our best efforts tonight from our starting guards but they stayed with us. Obviously we played against a desperate team, but we’re desperate too. We play every game as if it’s our last game.”

On Anthony Davis’ injury
“I know he hit his hand on the rim on the lob, but I can’t give you an update right now.”

On the team’s performance
“Ryan (Anderson) has 31, Tyreke (Evans) has 24, but I still think that Al Farouq (Aminu) coming into the game in the second half, his defense on Carmelo (Anthony) was stellar. His ability to contest his shot and then hold his position and then he got a bucket, a really big bucket from Tyreke. It’s tough to sit a game and not know when you are going to play and then come in the second half of the next game and produce. I thought he was huge. I know the other guys put up numbers, but I thought he gave us some big time juice in the second half.”

Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson
On tonight’s game
“We knew we had to step up defensively and eliminate easy shots and we did that in the second half. We outplayed them and imposed our will.”

On the three-point shooting
“We moved the ball and did a great job of finding the open man. In fast break opportunities we have a lot of guys that attack the basket and draw attention. We did a great job of finding the open man.”

More on tonight’s game
“We knew starting the second half that we wanted to go out and play hard. We came out with a lot of energy, played a solid game and it was a good win.”

Pelicans guard Eric Gordon
On tonight’s game
“It was a good offensive game by Tyreke (Evans) and Ryan (Anderson) tonight.”

On the team
“It is about being consistent. We have to step up especially getting rebounds. I liked our execution down the stretch.”

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis
On his injury
“I got fouled and I hit my hand on the rim. I am not sure who fouled me.”

On tonight’s game
“It is a tough place to play; it is a great Knicks team. Guys stepped up and played great minutes. We need that from our bench. They are a great unit. Hopefully we keep that going.”

More on his injury
“I am hoping it is a short term thing so I can get back on the floor. I felt pain. I didn’t think it was going to keep me out. I am happy that my team battled for the whole 48 (minutes) and got that ‘W’.”

Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans
On the team
“We are coming together as a team. We are starting to learn each other. I am learning more every game. This was big. We are trying to play together, move the ball, play defense. We didn’t have AD (Anthony Davis) which was a tough loss. Hopefully he gets healthy because he is a big part of this team.”

On his role on the team
“Every time I get in the game that is my thing…I am going to push the tempo. I feel like I can go to the basket at will or open it up for guys on the three-point line. When I get in I am in attack mode.”

On tonight’s game
“We came out sluggish but we picked it up. We ran our sets and we battled.”
