What the Knicks had to say about the 98-91 win over the Pelicans (2/19/14)

Knicks Coach Mike Woodson
On how Carmelo Anthony closed the game
“Well I mean he closed it out but it was a total team effort. I thought our defense got really stingy coming down the stretch in terms of getting stops and then Melo (Carmelo Anthony) was able to offensively bring us home.”

On lessons learned from last night’s game applied to tonight
“It’s been about 13 games that we’ve counted where we’ve held leads coming down the stretch and I’m talking about three, four minutes left on the clock and we can’t close it out. That’s been frustrating because if we’d just closed half of them out, we’d really be in a better position than we are right now as we stand today. We just got to keep building and take it one game at a time and put forth the effort from the defensive standpoint like we did tonight. To hold this team to 91 points was quite an effort.”

Knicks Center Tyson Chandler
On their play down the stretch tonight
“We were focused tonight, and tonight we made the plays we needed to make. We learned from last night and didn’t make the same mistakes. We played much calmer tonight.”

On the play were you save the ball and Carmelo was able to make the shot
“I just wanted to win tonight. It’s do whatever it takes.”

Knicks Guard J.R.Smith
On the Pelicans cutting the fourth quarter lead down to one
“They shot well and we didn’t take some good shots. Give them credit, but we played hard and was able to get the lead back in the end. We were just focused and played really good defense down the stretch.”

On hitting some three’s tonight
“I just felt good tonight. I was in a good rhythm and my teammates did a good job of giving me the ball in good situations. I felt confident and I should be able to build on this.”
