What the Denver Nuggets had to say about 105-89 loss to the Pelicans (12/27/13)

Nuggets Head Coach Brian Shaw
On first quarter woes
“We allowed 34 points in the first quarter and it really set us back. We dug ourselves a hole and were expending a lot of our energy trying to come back. We played catch up from that point on and could never get back.”

On team chemistry
“I don’t think that our first team or second team has the chemistry with the injuries to some of our key starters. But we still had a chance after we cut it to nine points in the last minutes, but we just couldn’t come back.”

On team adversity
“We have to play with the guys who are available, so we have faced adversity all year. Regardless of that, we have had a tough stretch lately, losing our last five games. We must play through the adversity and turn this season around.”

Nuggets forward Anthony Randolph
On the loss
“It was an up and down game. As usual, we got off to a slow start in the first quarter and we had to fight from behind the whole game. I think we showed a little bit more effort though to get back into the game. At that point, it’s a little bit too late.”

“We are getting beat on a lot of offensive rebounds. I have to do a better job on offensive rebounds and of stopping guys from getting rebounds. We’ve got to play together, and we have to look like a team out there.”

On trying to bounce back after a loss
“We are professionals. We just need to come back in here tomorrow night and try to get this win against Memphis and try to come out and play harder and get a better start.”
