What the Bulls had to say about 88-79 loss to the Pelicans (2/1/14)

Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau
On the loss
“The amount of touches hurt us. The eleven missed free-throws and loose balls hurt us as well. We were coming from behind most of the time. They (Pelicans) shot the three well. We got away from the basket in the missed free-throws and we just turned the ball over.”

On the rest of the players
“We had a couple of days off and they had a couple of days off. (Anthony) Davis did not play the last game and he made shots tonight. I thought we did a good job on (Eric) Gordon with keeping pressure on him as well as (Tyreke) Evans. I think the biggest thing was they beat us to loose balls. ”

On relying on D.J. Augustin or others to win the game
“We had to make shots. That is the main part of it; we just got to make shots. The defense will show the shots were there. We have to figure out how to win and how to do it.”

Bulls Forward Taj Gibson
On the play of D.J. Augustin
“He’s big time. Big time professional, great teammate. He’s one of the best point guards in this league, I think. This is a guy who’s been starting for years. I think he’s shining on this team because of the lack of point guards we have, especially healthy, and I just think he’s a phenomenal guard. We always talk about having a guard with his capability to keep his dribble all the time, is really unselfish, and can knock down big-time shots at any given moment. We’re happy to have him with us.”

Bulls Guard D.J. Augustin
On playing in his hometown in front of his family and friends
“I think they’re going to be happy for me, but I’m not happy that we didn’t get the win. I’m just going to be happy to see them and give them a hug and a kiss.”
