State-of-the-Art Production Studio opening near New Orleans Arena
August 16, 2012
The exciting news just keeps on coming for sports fans in New Orleans.
Today, New Orleans Saints, Hornets and FOX 8 owner Tom Benson cut the ribbon to a high-tech studio in the newly renovated Benson Tower, overlooking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the New Orleans Arena, and the live entertainment venue, Champions Square.
The studio will make its debut tomorrow, August 17, when the station hosts “FOX 8 LIVE TAILGATE” from the new set with pre-game coverage for the Saints’ preseason game against Jacksonville beginning at 4:00 p.m. Following the pre-game show, FOX 8 will televise the match-up with the Jaguars, which will include a first-half interview with Hornets General Manager Dell Demps.
Starting in early September, the new facility will be the home of several FOX 8 weekday newscasts and weekend sports programs.
The new 5800-square foot studio will feature robotic cameras, brand new control and audio rooms, multiple edit rooms and additional work space – all equipped with the highest-quality technology. Additionally, fiber lines run to and from the control room to the dome floor and remote cameras sit atop the surrounding buildings, along with a state of the art HD satellite uplink.
“This new facility is another step of progress for the city of New Orleans,” said Benson. “There is no more perfect view for a broadcast than this – with the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the New Orleans Arena in the back, as well as Champions Square – this is New Orleans.”
“This studio will become a front row seat for all sporting events and the place to be for Super Bowl coverage as well as coverage of any event that is occurring in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, New Orleans Arena and Champions Square,” said FOX 8 President and General Manager, Joe Cook.
After being neglected for 4 years following Katrina, the 26 story skyscraper was purchased by Benson in September 2009 and renamed Benson Tower.
The studio space will be a significant resource for outside syndication and production companies as well as regional and national networks. Management of the studio will be handled by Louisiana Media Company which was established in 2008 and owns WVUE – FOX 8.
