Most sports fans begin cheering for a team at an early age, then remain passionate and loyal throughout their entire lives. These fans feel a certain connection with the team, often referring to their favorite squad as we or us. However, it is not very often fans get to truly connect with the players or experience something unique with their favorite team. The Hornets gave their fans that opportunity though, allowing season ticket holders the chance to participate in a boot camp on Saturday, Jan. 28, as part of the NBA FIT Live Healthy Week.
The boot camp, one of six Hornets events during the NBAs FIT Live Healthy Week, allowed ticket holders the chance to take a tour of the Hornets practice facility, as well as participate in a workout inspired by those completed by Hornets players.
The workout was led by Director of Athletic Development, Carlos Daniel, while Hornets players Gustavo Ayon and Xavier Henry were in attendance motivating all of the participants. Daniel felt it was a great opportunity for fans to experience the less-glamorous part of the job for Hornets players.
They appreciate it a little bit more and get to see what the guys go through, said Daniel. They get to see what these guys actually have to do on a day-to-day basis to maintain their bodies and perform at that level needed for a chance to win.
Henry, a second-year guard out of Kansas, believed it was an excellent chance to educate others on the importance of staying healthy and fit while also connecting with fans on a more personal level.
(The boot camp) is going to show (fans) the best way to stay healthy and stay fit, he said. Its also a good way for us players to interact with the fans and have fun with them. Its good to let them know that we appreciate them for being season ticket holders and supporting us.
