Reasons To Be Excited About Training Camp: No. 15 Media Day
No. 15: Media Day
Although it technically takes place one day before training camp opens – on Monday, Sept. 30 – Media Day always generates a multitude of interesting stories and interviews from the team’s players. In keeping with the “everything’s new” theme of 2013-14, for the first time New Orleans Media Day will be held in the team’s spacious 50,000-square-foot Metairie practice facility. While several Pelicans have already tried on the club’s blue, gold and red uniforms, for some players Sept. 30 will be their first opportunity to be photographed in the new gear.
With a first-day-of-school feel to it, Media Day is when NBA players, coaches – even media members – realize that it’s time to get serious. Starting the following day, Oct. 1, the Pelicans begin two-a-day practices, embarking on a seven-month process that hopefully will result in a 2014 playoff berth in April. The Pelicans generally hold the twice-daily practices during the initial week of training camp, prior to opening their preseason game schedule (Oct. 5 at Houston this year).
