This past season New Orleans Pelicans fans were able to submit photos to a Pelicans Nation photo wall on Pelicans.com by using the hashtag #TakeFlight or #Pelicans. We visited with a number of these fans to talk about their love of attending Pelicans games at the Smoothie King Center and to get the story behind their photo.
It was the final game of the season and for Howard Harper III and wife Amber it was extra special to be able to have their nephew Rahmel Harper there to experience it. Both loyal fans that attend games regularly, they were delighted when they received tickets for the New Orleans Pelicans vs. Houston Rockets game from Howard’s parents, who are season ticket holders.
“We love supporting our city,” Amber Harper said. “Being able to raise him to do the same and seeing a kid enjoy basketball is the most fun for me.”
Throughout the game they watched Tyreke Evans, who scored 25 points and had 10 assists, dominate the action.
They also enjoyed a halftime performance by Trombone Shorty.
“There was so many people there, it was a packed house,” Howard said. “It looked awesome.”
The couple takes at least one picture when they attend a Pelicans game.
“It was a shoutout to them, a thank you to our parents,” Amber said.
When it came to the hashtags they used (#NephewAlert and #Pelicans) they both agreed it gave the picture a more meaningful feel.
Rahmel was able to see a triumphant end, with the Pelicans winning 105-100.
“The team is growing and getting better and better each year,” Amber said. “We’ve enjoyed following the journey.”
Howard said Pelicans games are “an awesome experience win or lose. It’s just fun.”
“We want to be fans and support the team,” Amber said. “It’s about taking pride in the city.”
