This past season New Orleans Pelicans fans were able to submit photos to a Pelicans Nation photo wall on Pelicans.com by using the hashtag #TakeFlight or #Pelicans. We visited with a number of these fans to talk about their love of attending Pelicans games at the Smoothie King Center and to get the story behind their photo.

Dolev Melamed and Gerrie Chaisson, friends and co-workers, spent an evening this past February cheering on the New Orleans Pelicans. Both fans are involved in sports medicine and were eager for a fun-filled night.

Melamed and Chaisson were able to experience Pelican Fan Fest, which includes bands, games and other activities prior to the game. Melamed has previously volunteered for this event.

“It’s the event before the event,” Chaisson said. “It’s great for kids and adults love it, too.”

Inside the Smoothie King Center, the women enjoyed their view of the court and were excited to see their favorite player, All-Star forward Anthony Davis.

“The seat layout is very comfortable,” Chaisson said. “The arena is great; it’s the perfect venue.”

Both emphasized that there is never a dull moment when you are at a Pelicans game.

“I love all the creative things you guys think about to fill the time,” Chaisson said.

“You’ve got to go, you’ve got to experience it,” Melamed said. “The energy is great. The fans are great.”

Whether it’s a win or a loss, both fans always support the Pelicans.

“A lot of the time the games are a close call,” Melamed said. “Everyone is standing up - people get energized for it.”

Before the night ended, they needed a snapshot.

“We love to take pictures,” Chaisson said. “We’re always documenting our events.”

In anticipation of next season, they have plans to attend games and cheer on the Pelicans.

“Not being from New Orleans, for me it makes me feel part of a community, part of the city,” Melamed said.
