Pelicans Fans Share the Stories Behind Their Photos

This past season New Orleans Pelicans fans were able to submit photos to a Pelicans Nation photo wall on Pelicans.com by using the hashtag #TakeFlight or #Pelicans. We visited with a number of these fans to talk about their love of attending Pelicans games at the Smoothie King Center and to get the story behind their photo.

Candice Bennatt and her boyfriend Jack Walker chose a great way to spend a night this past April at the New Orleans Pelicans vs. Rockets game. Bennatt, who recently moved to New Orleans, had quickly become a frequent attendee with Walker.

“It was cool to come into a new city and have a new team,” Bennatt said.

Living walking distance from the Smoothie King Center helped make it a convenient start to a fun night.

Unfortunately their favorite player, All-Star forward Anthony Davis, was out with an injury.

“He’s so young and talented,” Bennatt said. “When we’ve seen him throughout the community or interact with other people he seems so genuine.”

However, Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans dominated with 25 points and 10 assists while Austin Rivers put up 18 points.

“The energy that’s in the building - people really get into the game,” Walker said. “That’s the most fun for me”

A special moment for the couple was a young boy sitting behind them. He had been a fan his entire life but he was experiencing his first Pelicans game in person.

“He was pumped up,” Walker said. “It was exciting to see the excitement he had on his face.”

At halftime, the two really enjoyed the show put on by Rebirth Brass Band.

“We’ve seen shows all across the country,” Bennatt said. “The talent you guys bring to the court at halftime is always exciting.”

“There is always something going on, it’s always such a fun experience,” Walker said.

Bennatt and Walker make it a point to capture moments with a photo.

“On screen they ask us to tweet the pictures and we like to do that,” Walker said, “to cement the memory.”

The couple is looking forward to next season.

“Come to the game and have some fun,” Walker said. “Enjoy it and cheer on your team.”
