Three year veteran to return to Pelicans
July 10, 2013
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that they have re-signed forward Al-Farouq Aminu. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Aminu, a Wake Forest product, appeared in 76 regular season games (71 starts) for New Orleans last season averaging 7.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 27.2 minutes. The 6’9” forward led the team in rebounding 26 times and set a career-high with 20 rebounds in the final game of the season (4/17/13 at Dallas).
The three year pro was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers with the 8th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and was acquired by the New Orleans Pelicans prior to the 2011-12 season. Aminu had his best season as a pro, often counted on as a defensive stopper. Along with being one of the leading rebounders on the club, his athleticism was one of the many intangibles that made him a valued member throughout this past year.
