Pelicans postgame vs. Bucks: Quotes (3-9-2015)

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams

On the win:

“I was proud of the way we were able to handle the energy in the third quarter. The game changed when we came out in the third and turned the ball over. They hit shots. We gave up a 34-point quarter. We just were able to get stops down the stretch.”

On the Pelicans’ growth:

“They understand what they want to do, it’s a matter of doing it and a matter of executing the game plan. They felt it when Milwaukee was scoring in the third. Their comments were ‘We’ve got to get stops.’ No one said anything about offense. That’s a sign of growth, because most young guys are worried about their offense.”

On Anthony Davis’ performance:

“He’s sharing the ball. He had six assists tonight. He probably could have had more. (It’s) the way he’s doing it, versus double teams, in transitions. I think a couple times he got fouled on his jump shots and he didn’t let it bother him tonight. Any time you can get 30 on the road is big. He had 43 against a really good defensive team.”

Forward Anthony Davis

On his game plan coming into the night:

“Coach said to come out aggressive, make everyone around me better and pass the ball, getting guys the ball. When my opportunity is there to score, I just try to. Especially on the road you try to get everybody going.”

On his eight straight points after the Bucks took the lead:

“I wasn’t trying to lose tonight. That was my mind-set. Especially with Tyreke (Evans) going down, I know that guys lean on me more. I just try to not let the team lose or let that lead get away. Even though they took the lead, (I) tried to keep everyone composed.”

On playing as a team:

“We know where we are, we know what’s at stake. We try to feel a sense of urgency. Everyone’s playing their hearts out, putting everything on the line, and it’s showing. We know how good we are and we have to try and prove that every night.”

Guard Norris Cole

On tonight’s game:

“We just found a way to win. Once again, it was a special night by Anthony Davis. He carried us heavily on the offensive end. The Milwaukee Bucks made a good push. Antetokounmpo had a big third quarter. In the fourth we were able to get enough stops and make enough plays offensively to finish them off.”

On Anthony Davis:

“He’s a great player. He’s in a great rhythm. I’m glad to see him healthy. He’s showing why he’s a superstar. He carried the load tonight and we needed it.”
