Practice Facility project is another boost to the New Orleans Renaissance

Hornets to Build New Practice Facility

New Orleans (November 12, 2002) - New Orleans Hornets Majority Owner George Shinn announced that the teams permanent practice facility will be built in New Orleans East. A specific location in the area will be selected at a later date with construction beginning on the site shortly afterwards.

We are following our promise to do what is best for the entire New Orleans community and building the practice facility in New Orleans East seems to be the best method for us to continue to help perpetuate the renaissance of the city, said Shinn. The leaders on the East side have been tremendous in their vision for the area and we hope that partnering with them on this project will help create an impact that will provide a boost to the entire area.

The Hornets currently practice on the West Bank at the Alario Center in Westwego and will continue to do so until the new facility is ready. The projected completion of the practice site is for the fall of 2004 with the team occupying it to begin training camp for the 2004-05 season.

"We welcome the Hornets to New Orleans East with wide open arms, said Council Member Cynthia Willard-Lewis. New Orleans East is extremely eager to be home to our New Orleans Hornets practice facility. New Orleans East and the New Orleans HornetsA winning team.

It is with great pleasure that I along with the residents of eastern New Orleans welcome the Hornets to their home in New Orleans East, said Louisiana State Representative Pat Swilling. We are looking forward to embracing the Hornets and making them a part of our community.
