August 27, 2010
The New Mexico Thunderbirds, the NBA D-League affiliate of the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic, announced today that they will hold player open tryouts for the 2010-2011 season on Saturday, September 25th in New Orleans. The tryouts will be held at the Hornets practice facility, the Alario Center, located at 2000 Segnette Blvd, Westwego, LA, 70094. Check-in and late registration will begin at 8:00 am with tryouts beginning promptly at 9:00am.
The T-Birds player tryouts offer athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of the New Mexico Thunderbirds coaching staff, including head coach Darvin Ham. Players will compete to earn an invitation to the teams training camp, which will begin in early November.
The New Mexico Thunderbirds are very grateful to our NBA affiliate, the New Orleans Hornets, for their assistance with facilitating these tryouts in New Orleans and we look forward to a great partnership between the teams this coming season, said Thunderbirds Owner Sam Bregman.
Shane Edwards, who participated in open tryouts last season for the Thunderbirds was selected to join the team shortly into the 2009-10 season. He was able to remain on the roster for the remainder of that season, averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Edwards went on to participate in the 2010 summer camp with the Denver Nuggets, where he averaged 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over five games as a starter.
The fee for day of registration will be $150, cash only. Application forms are available at www.nmtbirds.com. For more information, e-mail email@example.com or call 505-265-3865.
