New Orleans Hornets power forward Carl Landry was realistic enough to know that he wasnt going to be voted into the 2012 NBA All-Star Game as a Western Conference starter. In fact, the last time Landrys name appeared on the official ballot when he was a member of the Sacramento Kings he jokingly claims that only his friends and family picked him.

My first year I only got 30 votes, he said with a big grin. This year, I think Im up to 32.

Although he may not receive a ton of national recognition, Landry is one of the NBAs most fan-friendly players, as he demonstrated Saturday, Jan. 28 at an Aarons store in Kenner. The 28-year-old made an appearance at Aarons to promote NBA All-Star balloting, as well as to meet and sign autographs for Hornets fans who stopped by the Williams Boulevard location.

Landry (Twitter account @CarlLandry24) has been known to tweet photos of he and diehard fans he meets around the city, as he did again Jan. 28 at Aarons. The fifth-year NBA veteran handed his cell phone to a Hornets employee, who snapped pictures of Landry with members of the Bee-Zanies, the group of avid fans who vocally support the team from Section 117.

Landry said he is appreciative of the Bee-Zanies, several of whom drove from downtown New Orleans to Kenner to support Landry at the All-Star balloting event.

They help make for a cool atmosphere in the Hive, the Purdue University product said of the Bee-Zanies. You dont get that in a lot of NBA arenas. Its almost like a college type of feel. It definitely gives the building energy.

Although its uncertain how many votes the 6-foot-9, 248-pounder received this time because the NBA only lists the top 10 vote-getters at each position, he was guaranteed to be heavily supported on a local level. For each of the past three years despite representing the leagues smallest city Hornets fans have led the entire NBA in the largest number of paper All-Star ballots submitted.
