The NBA announced today that New Orleans Hornets head coach Monty Williams was selected as the Western Conference Coach of the Month for the month of January.
"I'm honored to receive this award but the credit has to go to our players and my coaching staff that all continue to work tirelessly," said Williams.
The Hornets had a 12-4 record in January, equaling the best mark in the NBA (Spurs also were 12-4) and their franchise record for wins in a month. New Orleans had a 10-game winning streak during the month (Jan. 9-26), equaling a franchise record for most consecutive wins.
The Hornets held 9 of 16 opponents under 90 points last month, including the Western Conference-leading San Antonio Spurs in a 95-71 victory on Jan. 22. The Hornets are the only NBA team to have beaten the Spurs twice this season. New Orleans also handed the Atlanta Hawks their worst loss of the season in a 100-59 road win on Jan. 21.
The Hornets defense ranks first in the NBA in offensive rebounds allowed and second chance points. They also rank second in the league in points allowed.
