Hornets Team Up with State Legislature at Charity Game

It was an exciting night of entertainment as the New Orleans Hornets teamed up with the Louisiana State Legislature to host the annual House vs. Senate basketball game on Wednesday, May 23. The game was part of the fourth annual Louisiana Seafood HoopLA Out of Bounds Bash, a fundraiser that featured gourmet food, cocktails and exclusive silent auction items to help raise money for the Legislators’ Non-Profit Charity Fund.

Entertainment was provided by Hugo, the Honeybees and the Buzz Patrol during the game. At halftime, the French Quarter Flyers dunk team put on a special performance and one fan just missed a halfcourt shot for a chance to win a brand-new car. Prior to the game, the Hornets held a basketball clinic for 60 kids from the Baton Rouge area, as well as a Jr. Honeybees dance clinic for 40 girls who performed a dance routine just before tip-off.

A special appearance was made by Hornets head coach Monty Williams, as he was joined by assistant coaches James Borrego, Dave Hanners, Bryan Gates and Fred Vinson as well as director of athletic development, Carlos Daniel. Coaches Borrego and Gates served as the coaches for each team, as Borrego led the House to a 44-35 victory over Gates’ Senate team. It wasn’t all fun and games though, as the play on the court started getting a little “chippy” towards the end of regulation. While the competitive intensity may have rivaled that of an NBA playoff series, Hornets fans need not worry about any of the participants making their Hornets debut anytime soon.

“I may have seen some shots that looked like passes, and some passes that looked like shots, but it’s always fun to get out here and be part of an event like this,” said Williams.CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTOS
