Hornets Mathmobile presented by Chevron to provide interactive, fun way
for students to learn and practice a variety of math subjects

January 25, 2012

The Hornets and Chevron announced today the launch of the Hornets Mathmobile presented by Chevron, the interactive motor coach bus that will travel the state of Louisiana distributing math and science books to students of all ages. Hornets guard Jarrett Jack will headline the unveiling of the Hornets Mathmobile presented by Chevron, which will take place on Thursday, Jan. 26 at Miller Wall Elementary School (2001 Bonnie Ann Drive, Marrero, La. 70072) at 2:00 p.m.

We are thrilled to continue to grow our partnership with the Hornets in the community with the Hornets Mathmobile, said Vice President of Chevrons Gulf of Mexico Business Unit Warner Williams. The Hornets Mathmobile provides a fun, interactive environment for kids to learn and practice different methods in math.

The overall goal of the Hornets Mathmobile presented by Chevron is to demonstrate the importance of math by connecting math to basketball. Interactive games and programs on the Hornets Mathmobile will help illustrate that math is an integral piece of sports.

Chevron has been an instrumental partner for us as we continue to make a difference in the New Orleans community, said Hornets President Hugh Weber. Were thrilled to add another element of our partnership with the Hornets Mathmobile and are excited to help students learn different math facts and statistics and how they relate to basketball.

The Mathmobile will feature a number of iPads with built in applications that focus on targeted math skills such as: general addition and subtraction, division, fractions, geometry, algebra, and other related math subjects. It also includes a flat-screen TV that will feature customized PSA messages and will distribute math related books and collateral to students from Pre-k high school.

The Hornets Mathmobile presented by Chevron is perfect example of Chevron continuing to fuel our community through literacy and math education in the communities in which they live and work.

Chevron, one of the Hornets five Crescent City Champion-level partners, also partners with the Hornets on the Most Valuable Pupil program, which provides students in the Recovery School District and Orleans Parish Public Schools (grades 5th-8th) with incentives to encourage them to excel academically. Also presented by Chevron, the Hornets Mathletes program provides students in St. Tammany Parish with incentives to excel academically in the Math curriculum.
