March 11, 2010
The Hornets and State Farm are teaming up to encourage fans to donate new or gently-worn contemporary prom dresses at Hornets home games on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 27 for the Hornets Annual Prom Dress Giveaway presented by State Farm. Fans who donate will receive a voucher for a pair of tickets to the Wednesday, March 31 game against the Washington Wizards.
Prom night is such a special night in a young ladys life, and it is a blessing for us to be able to collect and provide these girls with elegant gowns for their evening, said Denise Shinn, president of The George Shinn Foundation and wife of owner George Shinn. This is a great way that women in our community can give back to local high school girls and provide something as special and memorable as a prom dress.
The Hornets Annual Prom Dress Giveaway presented by State Farm will be held on Saturday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dryades YMCA. The morning session of the giveaway is reserved by appointment only for junior and senior-level girls from any local high school. These young ladies must schedule an appointment by calling the Prom Dress Giveaway hotline at 504-593-4700. The event will be open to all junior and senior girls from 1-3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
To be eligible to receive a beautiful gown, young ladies MUST be a junior or senior in high school, present a valid school ID or class schedule signed by principal and be accompanied by a parent or adult. Each girl will be able to select one dress and will have a maximum of 15 minutes to browse and try on.
Local retailers such as Cache, Pearls Place, Linda Lee Bridal, Dress-Up Boutique, Bridal Manor & Gwens Bridal have also been generous in donating dresses for this annual event.
