HORNETS AND THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ACADEMY LAUNCH
POST-SEASON LEAGUE FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE BOYS
February 8, 2011
The New Orleans Hornets and the National Basketball Academy will launch a new post-season league for 7th and 8th grade boys with games held every Sunday from Feb. 13 through March 27 at the Jewish Community Center in Uptown New Orleans (5342 St. Charles Ave.) The league will allow teams of 10 to compete against each other and continue to work on basketball skills and fundamentals during their offseason.
This league is a great opportunity for teams to continue to play together throughout their offseason or for individuals to join a team and improve their game, said Dan Purcell, Director of Louisiana Region for the National Basketball Academy. Our goal is to help these kids develop as athletes and people and improve their basketball skills in a fun environment.
Games will be played every hour from 3:30-6:30 p.m. with two 20-minute halves and will follow LHSAA rules. Games will not be held on Sunday, March 6 due to the Mardi Gras holiday. Coaches will be provided for games but teams may opt to bring their own coach per approval of league commissioner.
Each team will consist of a maximum of 10 players, and all participants will receive a team jersey to wear during games and will receive a ticket to a Hornets game. The total cost for the 7-game season is $135 per participant.
