Hornets encourage fans to help fight hunger by donating non-perishable food items in exchange for free tickets

The New Orleans Hornets and Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana will host a food drive at the Hornets game against Sacramento on Monday, Feb. 6. Fans who bring five or more non-perishable food items to the game against the Kings on Feb. 6 will receive two free tickets to an upcoming Hornets game.

Items will be collected at Buzz Fest outside the Northeast Entrance. Fans can also submit their non-perishable goods and receive their free tickets upon entry to the game at the Northeast Entrance, East VIP Entrance, North 100 Entrance and the box office.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana is leading the fight against hunger in south Louisiana through food distribution, education, advocacy and disaster response. Annually, Second Harvest serves approximately 263,000 people through 240 nonprofit and faith-based agencies across 23 south Louisiana parishes from the Mississippi border to the Texas state line.

One in eight people in Louisiana struggles with hunger. Annually, Second Harvest Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to more than 263,000 people, including 82,000 children and 40,000 seniors. In any given week, nearly 42,000 people access emergency food services through Second Harvest Food Bank member agencies.

Theres a new face of hunger in our community, said Natalie Jayroe, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank. Among the growing ranks of Louisianas hungry are citizens who, before now, never needed the services of a food bank to help feed their families. The struggling economy has created an unprecedented need for emergency food assistance. Food drives are a critical source of donated food for Second Harvest Food Bank and we are extremely grateful to our New Orleans Hornets and the fans for their generosity and support.

The Hornets game against the Kings will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The Buzz Fest pre-game block party starts at 5:30 p.m. and will feature live music by DJ Raj Smoove, $1 beers, Miller Lite STH Beer Garden and interactive games for the entire family.
